I have a new job, an omission, and some new clothes

UM, HI NEW READERS: So my blog is being linked to from Valleywag, and TechCrunch, and Wired, regarding Dave Sifry’s gaffe of not mentioning me when he announced some Technorati departures. I MUST SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT!

  • Item A: Dave Sifry (and everyone at Technorati) is very happy for me and my new position at funnyordie.com, and it really was an oversight on his part that he didn’t include me in that blog post. He’s since updated his post to say as much.
  • Item B: I know this blog post right here makes me seem like a fluffy, blathering blogger who talks about clothes shopping (which is actually totally true) but I swear, there is more to me, it’s just that I wrote this blog post in about two minutes. And it shows! Yay Liz!

Original post:

Part of the reason my blogging has been so lagging lately is that I was interviewing for a job, and obviously I couldn’t disclose it until a) I got it and b) Technorati announced it.

Today, at a company meeting, I told the rest of Technorati that I got my perfect job, Director of Product at funnyordie.com, which is a comedy video website co-owned by Will Ferrell. I am so excited about it, and I know that I can make that website super extra awesome! And, THE place to go not just to see the best comedy but also for comedians trying to get an audience. Basically, true love. At the same time today, two other senior Technorati people announced that they were leaving, each for separate consulting opportunities.
After the company meeting, Dave Sifry, our CEO, wrote a blog post to discuss publicly the changes at the company. He said that two people were leaving the company: Adam Hertz and Tantek Celik. No mention of me! Adam and Tantek have been at the company for three years, certainly a significant acheivement. I’ve only been there half that time, a year and a half. But in that time, I took a website that was only engaging to a core group of bloggers to a much more user-friendly site that gained 3x in traffic, doubled repeat visitors, and added over a page view to each user visit. I am proud of the work I did at Technorati.
Clothes! As many of you know, I vowed to give up clothes shopping in 07, in a drunken fit of fiscal responsibility. But when I finished negotiating my offer at funnyordie.com, I went SHOPPING. With Heidi! I only wound up getting two pairs of jeans, a t-shirt, and a cardigan. (Yet, that took all day. I forgot how HARD shopping is.) Ivan tried to make me feel guilty about breaking my year-long vow to not shop by saying “I really admired your dedication to your goal…”, but I made that vow because I was broke! And my little bit of raise at funnyordie.com earns me the right to BREAK THAT VOW!

I start my new job Monday. I’ve been so stressed out about leaving Technorati and having to tell people at work that I’m leaving, almost all whom I really really like, that I haven’t been able to sleep, and last week I got a cold that just lingers and lingers. I’m hoping that now everything is announced, I can finally get into bed and sleep and sleep and sleep.
